Wondering how Logic Pro X and Pro Tools 12 run on this, especially Logic since I'll probably be using that more. I've been able to run Logic Pro 9 fine on an old iMac (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB memory) - over a dozen tracks using multiple plugins - although if I recall correctly Pro Tools 11 had more issues. If you have a notebook Mac (such as a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air), you also see one or more of these additional features: Use all F1, F2 Keys as Standard Function Keys: If this check box is selected, the F keys at the top of your keyboard control the active software application. The Air's processor is about the same speed as the 2017 MacBook i7. Don't be fooled by Intel's '8th Generation' marketing. The Air is Apple's laziest notebook design ever. It is not a worthy replacement for the innovative 12' MacBook. Get the MacBook Pro. If you need to carry around a brick, at least make sure it is powerful.

however, mine is the 13' version, i7 processor and 2.2 ghz and 8 gb RAM, so its the highest spec.
And I use an external flash drive.
I did meet a guy recently , he is running Logic Pro on the basic 11' Macbook air, without problems, though he doesnt use many tracks or plugins.

I Would go for the highest spec you can afford really, bearing in mind the 13' ones offer a bigger processor.
